Process

The university’s digital strategy will be developed using a four-phase approach (preparation, discovery, development and alignment) to allow time for a thoughtful and meaningful dialogue with the community.

The Four Phases

PHASE 1: PREPARATION

PHASE 1: PREPARATION - (Plan & Scope)

Form Advisory Committees and Working Group, develop the communications and engagement approach and initiate peer review research.

PHASE 2: DISCOVERY

PHASE 2: DISCOVERY - (Listen & Learn)

Conduct 1-1 interviews with key leadership groups to solicit viewpoints on UBC’s digital future. Consult academic and administrative groups to seek broad input on digital priorities to inform the digital strategy.

PHASE 3: DEVELOPMENT

PHASE 3: DEVELOPMENT - (Define & Qualify)

Continue consultations with the campus community to build out the strategic framework. Develop the draft digital strategy and invite community perspectives on emerging themes from earlier consultations.

PHASE 4: ALIGNMENT

PHASE 4: ALIGNMENT - (Synthesize & Prioritize)

Invite campus community feedback on the draft strategy. Review and refine the roadmap based on discussions with UBC executive, ITAC, and Advisory Committees.

The project timeline, September 2021 to June 2022, will enable iterative conversations for faculty, staff and students to weigh in on their digital ambitions and priorities. The creation of the digital strategy is aligned with a number of concurrent planning activities underway, including UBC’s Strategic Plan - Shaping UBC’s Next Century, Academic Scenario Planning, Beyond COVID to name a few.
